Dee Dee Sharp, born Dione LaRue in 1945 in Philadelphia, is an American R&B singer known for her 1960s hits. Her debut single, "Mashed Potato Time," released in 1962, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over a million copies. Other notable songs include "Gravy (For My Mashed Potatoes)," "Ride!," and "Do the Bird." In 1967, she married producer Kenny Gamble and recorded under the name Dee Dee Sharp-Gamble. During the disco era, she found success with "I'm Not In Love," and in 1980 topped dance charts with "Breaking and Entering."
