Deicide is an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed in 1987 by drummer Steve Asheim and guitarists Eric and Brian Hoffman under the name Carnage. After bassist and vocalist Glen Benton joined, they renamed themselves Amon, and in 1989, Deicide. Their second album, Legion (1992), brought them mainstream success. The band is known for lyrics focusing on Satanism and blasphemy. Notable albums include Deicide (1990), Once Upon the Cross (1995), and The Stench of Redemption (2006). They are considered one of the best-selling death metal bands of the SoundScan era, second only to Cannibal Corpse.
