Dennis Bovell is a Barbadian-British reggae musician, producer, and composer known for his work in the genres of dub, lovers rock, and reggae. Born in 1953 in Saint Peter, Barbados, he moved to London in 1965. In the 1970s, he founded the band Matumbi, one of the first British reggae groups. Bovell is renowned for his collaboration with dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson and production work for artists such as Janet Kay, The Slits, and Fela Kuti. His notable albums include "Strictly Dub Wize" (1978) and "Brain Damage" (1981). In 2021, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contributions to music.
