Dmitri Kolesnik is a Russian jazz double bassist and composer born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). After graduating from the Mussorgsky College of Music in 1985, he was named Discovery of the Year by the Soviet Jazz Federation. He has collaborated with artists such as Dave Brubeck, Billy Taylor, and Pat Metheny. In 1991, he moved to New York to study with Ron Carter. His albums include "Blues for Dad" and "Five Corners". Kolesnik is known for his melodies influenced by Afro-American rhythms and his approach to bass playing that emphasizes supporting the band.
