Downset is an American rap metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 1989. Originally known as Social Justice, the band blends elements of rap, funk, hardcore punk, and metal with socially conscious lyrics. Their debut album, "Downset," was released in 1994, followed by "Do We Speak a Dead Language?" in 1996. The band was known for their energetic live performances and played the second stage at Ozzfest in 1997. After several lineup changes and hiatuses, they released "Maintain" in 2022 under Nuclear Blast Records. Downset is considered an influential act in the rap metal and hardcore punk genres.
