The Emerson String Quartet was an American string quartet founded in 1976 in New York City. Over their 47-year career, they released more than 30 recordings and won nine Grammy Awards, including two for Best Classical Album. Their repertoire included the complete string quartets of composers such as Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Bartók, Webern, and Shostakovich. The quartet collaborated with notable soloists like Renée Fleming, Barbara Hannigan, and Evgeny Kissin. In October 2023, they concluded their activities after a final concert in New York City.
