Franziska Pietsch is a German violinist born into a musical family in East Berlin. She began her career as a soloist at the Komische Oper Berlin at the age of 11. After emigrating to West Germany in 1986, she continued her studies with Ulf Hoelscher, Jens Ellermann, and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York. She has performed with orchestras such as the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Budapest Philharmonic. Her album "Fantasque" received the International Classical Music Award in 2021. In 2014, she founded the string trio Trio Lirico. In 2024, she established the WINTERKLASSIK festival at the Sorbischen Museum Bautzen.
