Freddie Scott was an American soul singer and songwriter, best known for his hits "Hey, Girl" and "Are You Lonely for Me". Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he began his career in gospel music. In 1963, he achieved success with "Hey, Girl", which reached the top 10 in the US. In 1967, he topped the R&B chart with "Are You Lonely for Me". Scott collaborated with notable producers like Bert Berns and recorded for labels such as Colpix, Columbia, and Shout. His 1968 song "(You) Got What I Need" was later sampled in Biz Markie's 1989 hit "Just a Friend". Scott continued recording and performing until his death in 2007.
