Fretwork is a British viol consort founded in 1985. The ensemble specializes in English consort music from the time of William Byrd to Henry Purcell, as well as performing Renaissance and contemporary repertoire. They have received acclaim for their recordings of works by John Dowland, Henry Purcell, and William Byrd. In 2009, they were awarded the Gramophone Award for their album 'Purcell: Complete Fantazias'. Fretwork has also collaborated with artists such as The King's Singers and The Hilliard Ensemble.
