General Johnson was an American singer and songwriter, best known as the frontman of Chairmen of the Board. In 1972, he released his debut solo album, "Generally Speaking," featuring tracks like "All We Need Is Understanding" and "Every Couple's Not A Pair." His music is characterized by a soul and funk sound typical of Detroit soul. Johnson was also a successful songwriter, penning hits such as "Patches" for Clarence Carter and "Want Ads" for Honey Cone. His contributions to American popular music were recognized in 2001 when "General Johnson Day" was declared in the state of Virginia.
