George Jackson was a prolific songwriter and singer born in Indianola, Mississippi. Over his career, he penned more than 2,000 songs across various genres, including deep soul, modern soul blues, rock 'n' roll, and pop. In the 1960s, he worked for Goldwax Records in Memphis and later became the lead songwriter at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Among his most notable compositions are "One Bad Apple" for the Osmonds and "Old Time Rock & Roll" for Bob Seger. Jackson also recorded his own material, including "Aretha, Sing One for Me" in 1972. In the 1980s, his songs "Down Home Blues" and "Cheating In the Next Room" helped define the soul blues genre. He passed away on April 14, 2013, at the age of 68.
