George Lewis was an American jazz clarinetist born in New Orleans in 1900. A self-taught musician, he played with various local bands during the 1920s, including the Black Eagle Band and the Eureka Brass Band. In the 1940s, he collaborated with trumpeter Bunk Johnson, leading to wider recognition. By the 1950s, Lewis became a leading figure in the revival of traditional New Orleans jazz, recording albums such as "Jazz in the Classic New Orleans Tradition" and performing worldwide. His music was known for its melodic simplicity and authentic sound. He passed away in New Orleans in 1968.
