Originally known as Painted Lady, the band renamed itself to Girlschool and became one of the leading female bands in the hard rock and heavy metal genres. Their second album, "Hit and Run" from 1981, reached number 5 on the UK Albums Chart. The band is known for their collaboration with Motörhead, including the joint EP "St. Valentine's Day Massacre" from 1981.
