Grandmaster Flash, born Joseph Saddler on January 1, 1958, in Bridgetown, Barbados, is an American DJ and producer recognized as a pioneer of hip-hop DJing. In the 1970s, he developed techniques such as the Quick Mix Theory, punch phrasing, and scratching. In 1976, he founded Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, who released "The Message" in 1982, offering a realistic portrayal of urban life. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.
