Grigory Sokolov is a Russian pianist born in Leningrad. He began studying piano at the age of five and debuted in Moscow at twelve. At sixteen, he won the gold medal at the 1966 International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, becoming its youngest winner. Sokolov is renowned for his interpretations of works by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Schubert. In 2014, he signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon to release live recordings, including the 2015 album "The Salzburg Recital." In 2022, he was granted Spanish citizenship.
