Gustav Leonhardt was a Dutch harpsichordist, conductor, and musicologist, renowned for his work in the field of historically informed performance of Baroque music. Born in 's-Graveland, Netherlands, he studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. Leonhardt was a pioneer in reviving authentic interpretations of composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, recording the complete harpsichord works. He collaborated with conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt on recording all of Bach's cantatas. His contributions to historical performance practice were recognized with numerous awards and honors.
