Hank Mobley's 1961 album "Workout" stands as a pinnacle of hard bop jazz. This energetic quintet recording features four original compositions by Mobley—"Workout," "Uh Huh," "Smokin'," and "Greasin' Easy"—providing ideal platforms for inspired improvisations. The sole standard, "The Best Things In Life Are Free," showcases Mobley's lyrical side. In this 2024 reissue, released on May 17, Mobley is joined by guitarist Grant Green, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones. The album is part of the Blue Note Classic Vinyl series, presented in stereo, fully analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
