The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1882 by Robert Kajanus, is the first permanent orchestra in the Nordic countries. Throughout its history, it has collaborated with notable conductors, including Paavo Berglund, who served as music director from 1975 to 1979. The orchestra is renowned for its interpretations of Jean Sibelius's works, including complete symphonies and tone poems such as "Kullervo" and "Finlandia". Its primary concert venue is the Helsinki Music Centre, and as of the 2023–24 season, Jukka-Pekka Saraste is the chief conductor.
