Herbert Blomstedt is a Swedish conductor born in 1927 in the USA. He served as music director of the San Francisco Symphony (1985–1995) and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (1998–2005). With these orchestras, he recorded complete symphonies of Beethoven and Bruckner. Blomstedt is known for his interpretations of works by composers such as Carl Nielsen and Paul Hindemith.
