Howard Hanson was an American composer, conductor, and educator known for his contributions to neoromantic music. Born in 1896 in Nebraska, he studied at Northwestern University. In 1924, he became the director of the Eastman School of Music, where he served for 40 years. His notable works include Symphony No. 2 "Romantic" and the opera "Merry Mount". Hanson was also active as a conductor, recording over 100 works for RCA Victor, Mercury Records, and Columbia Records.
