Iced Earth is an American heavy metal band formed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida, by guitarist and primary songwriter Jon Schaffer. The band is known for its unique style that blends elements of power metal, thrash metal, and heavy metal. Their most notable albums include "Iced Earth" (1990), "Night of the Stormrider" (1991), "Burnt Offerings" (1995), and "The Dark Saga" (1996). Throughout their career, the band underwent numerous lineup changes, with Schaffer remaining the sole constant member. In January 2021, Schaffer was arrested for his involvement in the United States Capitol attack, leading to the departure of other members and the band's subsequent hiatus.
