Imants Kalniņš is a Latvian composer born on May 26, 1941, in Riga. Throughout his career, he has composed seven symphonies, several operas, oratorios, and cantatas. His work includes the first rock opera in the Soviet Union, "Ei, jūs tur!". Kalniņš is also known for his rock songs, performed by bands such as Menuets and Pērkons. In 2021, he received the Grand Music Award for lifetime achievement. Beyond his musical career, he served as a member of the Latvian parliament from 1993 to 1995 and again from 1998 to 2010.
