Jacqueline du Pré was a British cellist born in Oxford, England. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and later with prominent cellists such as Paul Tortelier, Pablo Casals, and Mstislav Rostropovich. Among her most notable recordings is Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, which she recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli. In 1967, she married conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim. Her career was cut short in 1973 due to a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, after which she dedicated herself to teaching until her death in 1987.
