JJJJJerome Ellis is an American artist, musician, and poet, born in 1989 to Jamaican and Grenadian immigrants. Hailing from Tidewater, Virginia, he is known for his work exploring the intersections of music, stuttering, and Black identity. His debut album, "The Clearing," was released in 2021 and received the Anna Rabinowitz Prize in 2022. Ellis is a multi-instrumentalist, proficient in saxophone, piano, organ, and electronics. His work often incorporates improvisation and interdisciplinary approaches, collaborating with artists such as James Harrison Monaco and Haruna Lee. His second album, "Vesper Sparrow," is scheduled for release in November 2025.
