John Gary Williams was an American soul singer and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of The Mad Lads, a group formed in the 1960s in Memphis. The group achieved success with hits like "Don't Have to Shop Around" and "I Want Someone". After serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968, Williams returned to the group, which disbanded in 1972. In 1973, he released his only solo album, "John Gary Williams", under Stax Records, featuring tracks like "The Whole Damn World is Going Crazy". The album was reissued in 2017.
