John Neschling is a Brazilian conductor born in 1947 in Rio de Janeiro. He studied conducting in Vienna and at Tanglewood under Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa. He has served as music director at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Sankt Gallen Theater in Switzerland, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Bordeaux Opera. From 1997 to 2008, he was the music director and chief conductor of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, earning five Diapason d'Or awards and one Latin Grammy. Between 2013 and 2016, he was the artistic director of the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo.
