John Thomas was a Welsh composer and harpist, known by the bardic name Pencerdd Gwalia. Born on March 1, 1826, in Bridgend, he was appointed harpist to Queen Victoria in 1872. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he later taught. His works include two harp concertos, an opera, a symphony, and two cantatas: "Llewellyn" (1863) and "The Bride of Neath Valley" (1866).
