Johnny Maestro & The Crests were an American doo-wop group formed in the mid-1950s. The group is best known for their hit "16 Candles," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958. Other notable songs include "Step By Step" and "The Angels Listened In." They were one of the first multiracial vocal groups in the United States. After Johnny Maestro's departure in 1960, he continued his musical career with The Brooklyn Bridge, achieving success with "Worst That Could Happen" in 1969. The Crests remained active after his departure, undergoing several lineup changes.
