Johnny Preston was an American rock and roll singer, best known for his 1959 hit "Running Bear." Born in Port Arthur, Texas, he began his music career with the band The Shades. "Running Bear," written by his friend J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, reached number one on charts in both the U.S. and the UK. Other notable songs include "Cradle of Love" and "Feel So Fine." Preston was recognized for his contributions to rock and roll and was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He passed away in 2011 in Beaumont, Texas.
