Joni James was an American traditional pop singer, born Giovanna Carmella Babbo in Chicago. She began her career in the 1950s and became famous with hits like "Why Don't You Believe Me?" and "Your Cheatin' Heart". During her career, she sold over 100 million records and recorded more than 25 albums. In 1964, she withdrew from public life to care for her ailing husband, music director Tony Acquaviva. In the 1990s, she returned to the stage and continued performing. She passed away on February 20, 2022, at the age of 91.
