Joseph Keilberth was a German conductor specializing in opera. He began his career at the State Theatre in Karlsruhe in 1925 and served as chief conductor in Prague, Dresden, Hamburg, and Munich. From 1952 to 1956, he conducted at the Bayreuth Festival, where in 1955 he produced the first stereo recording of Wagner's "Ring Cycle." His notable recordings also include "Lohengrin" from 1953 and "Der Freischütz" from 1958. He died in 1968 in Munich while conducting the opera "Tristan und Isolde."
