Joy McKean was an Australian country music singer and songwriter, recognized as a pioneer in the genre. Born on January 14, 1930, in Singleton, New South Wales, she formed the duo The McKean Sisters with her sister Heather, known for their yodeling harmonies. In 1951, she married Slim Dusty, with whom she created a successful musical partnership. McKean wrote some of his most famous songs, including "Lights on the Hill" and "Indian Pacific". Together, they released over 100 albums and sold more than 8 million records in Australia. In 1973, she won the first Golden Guitar award for "Lights on the Hill".
