Julius Berger is a German cellist born in Augsburg in 1954. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Munich under Walter Reichardt and Fritz Kiskalt, later at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Antonio Janigro, where he served as his assistant from 1979 to 1982. At the age of 28, he was appointed professor at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg, becoming one of the youngest professors in Germany. Berger dedicates himself to interpreting works by composers such as Luigi Boccherini, Paul Hindemith, Ernst Bloch, Max Bruch, Richard Strauss, Robert Schumann, and Edward Elgar. He is known for his commitment to contemporary music, recording works by John Cage, Toshio Hosokawa, and Sofia Gubaidulina. Notable albums include "Music for My Cello" and "Bach: Cello Suites Nos. 1-6".
