Karel Svoboda (1938–2007) was a Czech composer of popular and film music. After abandoning medical studies, he joined the rock band Mefisto in the 1960s. Later, he composed for the Laterna Magika theater and collaborated with leading Czech singers, notably Karel Gott, for whom he wrote over 80 songs, including the hit "Lady Carneval." Svoboda is also known for his compositions for television series such as "Maya the Bee" and "Nils Holgersson." His significant film scores include music for the fairy tale "Three Nuts for Cinderella." In the 1990s, he created successful musicals "Dracula" and "Monte Cristo."
