Katapult is a Czech rock band formed in 1975 in Plzeň by Oldřich Říha and Jiří Šindelář. Initially known as Mahagon, they relocated to Prague and adopted their current name after being banned by authorities. During the 1970s and 1980s, they were among the most popular Czechoslovak rock bands. Notable albums include "Katapult" (1978), "2006" (1980), and "Rock de Luxe" (1986). The band won the "Zlatý slavík" award for best group in 1979 and 1980. Following Jiří Šindelář's death in 2009, Oldřich Říha continued the band's activities with new members.
