Keiko Matsui is a Japanese pianist and composer known for her work in the smooth jazz and new age genres. Born in Tokyo, she began playing piano at the age of six and studied classical music throughout her school years. She later developed an interest in jazz and started composing her own music. In 1987, she released her debut solo album, "A Drop of Water." Notable albums include "Sapphire" (1995), "Deep Blue" (2001), and "Euphoria" (2023). Matsui has frequently collaborated with artists such as Bob James, Kirk Whalum, and Lalah Hathaway. Her music is known for blending Eastern and Western musical elements, and her compositions often reference nature and spiritual themes.
