King Sunny Adé, born Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist renowned as a pioneer of jùjú music. In 1967, he formed his backing band, the African Beats. During the 1970s, he achieved national success in Nigeria, and in the 1980s, he gained international recognition with the albums "Juju Music" (1982) and "Synchro System" (1983), the latter earning him a Grammy nomination, the first for a Nigerian artist. His 1998 album "Odu" also received a Grammy nomination. Adé is known for his vibrant live performances and has significantly contributed to the global popularity of African music.
