Klaus Mäkelä is a Finnish conductor and cellist, born in Helsinki in 1996. He comes from a musical family; his father is a cellist and his mother a pianist. He studied conducting at the Sibelius Academy under Jorma Panula and cello with Marko Ylönen. In 2020, he became chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, and in 2021, music director of the Orchestre de Paris. In 2027, he will assume the role of chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. His notable recordings include the complete symphonies of Jean Sibelius with the Oslo Philharmonic and ballets by Igor Stravinsky with the Orchestre de Paris.
