Laurel Aitken, born Lorenzo Aitken in Havana, Cuba, was a pioneer of Jamaican ska music. In 1938, he moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where he began his musical career. In 1958, he released the single "Boogie in My Bones"/"Little Sheila," one of the first Jamaican hits issued in the United Kingdom. Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable producers such as Chris Blackwell and Duke Reid. In the 1960s, he relocated to London, continuing to record and perform, gaining popularity among mods and skinheads. His albums like "Ska With Laurel" and "High Priest of Reggae" are considered classics of the genre. Aitken is often referred to as the "Godfather of Ska."
