Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter known for his contributions to the hard bop genre. A prodigy, he began his professional career at age 15 and became a featured soloist with Dizzy Gillespie's big band at 18. In the late 1950s, he started recording his own albums, initially exhibiting a style influenced by Clifford Brown. He was a member of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers from 1958 to 1961 and again from 1964 to 1965. His most renowned work is the 1963 album "The Sidewinder," featuring the hit title track.
