Libor Pešek was a Czech conductor renowned for his interpretations of Czech music. He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Václav Smetáček and Karel Ančerl. Pešek served as chief conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic (1981–1982) and as conductor-in-residence of the Czech Philharmonic (1982–1990). From 1987 to 1997, he was the music director of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, where he contributed to the popularization of works by Czech composers, notably Josef Suk. In 1996, he was appointed an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Pešek passed away on October 23, 2022, at the age of 89.
