Melvin "Lil' Son" Jackson was an American blues singer and guitarist born on August 16, 1915, in Tyler, Texas. During the 1930s, he performed with the group Blue Eagle Four. After serving in the army during World War II, he began recording for Gold Star Records, where his 1948 song "Freedom Train Blues" achieved success. He later recorded for Imperial Records. In 1960, he was rediscovered by producer Chris Strachwitz and recorded for Arhoolie Records. His music is characterized by the Texas blues style. He died on May 30, 1976, in Dallas, Texas.
