Lorraine Hunt Lieberson was an American mezzo-soprano renowned for her interpretations of Baroque and contemporary music. Initially trained as a violist, she transitioned to professional singing in her thirties. She collaborated with director Peter Sellars on productions of Handel's operas such as "Giulio Cesare" and "Theodora". Her discography includes recordings like "Handel: Ariodante" and "Bach Cantatas, BWV 82 and 199". She was married to composer Peter Lieberson, who composed the "Neruda Songs" for her. She passed away in 2006.
