Louis "Sabu" Martinez was an American percussionist of Puerto Rican descent, renowned for his mastery of the conga and bongo drums. In 1948, he replaced Chano Pozo in Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra and later collaborated with artists such as Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, and Art Blakey. In 1957, he released his debut album "Palo Congo" on the Blue Note label, which is considered a classic of Afro-Cuban jazz. His other notable albums include "Safari with Sabu" and "Sorcery!". In 1967, he moved to Sweden, where he continued his musical career until his death in 1979.
