Louis Smith was an American jazz trumpeter born on May 20, 1931, in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Tennessee State University, he pursued further studies at the University of Michigan, where he played with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. In 1958, he released two albums for Blue Note Records: "Here Comes Louis Smith" and "Smithville". Later, he dedicated himself to teaching at the University of Michigan and in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Throughout his career, he collaborated with artists like Cannonball Adderley and Kenny Burrell. He passed away on August 20, 2016, at the age of 85.
