Ludwig Hoelscher was a German cellist born in Solingen in 1907. He studied cello in Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, and Berlin under teachers such as Julius Klengel and Hugo Becker. In 1930, he received the Mendelssohn Prize, and in 1931, he debuted with the Berlin Philharmonic under Max Fiedler. He was a member of the Elly Ney Piano Trio and the Strub Quartet. Throughout his career, he premiered over 50 works by composers like Wolfgang Fortner and Hans Werner Henze. After World War II, he taught at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and continued international concert tours. He passed away in Tutzing in 1996.
