Luigi Boccherini was an Italian composer and cellist of the Classical era. Born in 1743 in Lucca, he died in 1805 in Madrid. His oeuvre comprises approximately 500 works, including over 100 string quintets, around 90 string quartets, and several cello concertos. Boccherini is renowned for his contributions to the development of the string quintet, and his music is characterized by Rococo charm and influences from the Spanish guitar tradition.
