Manitas de Plata, born Ricardo Baliardo, was a French flamenco guitarist of Catalan descent. He was born in 1921 in Sète, France. His first official recording, made in a chapel in Arles in 1963, brought him international recognition. In 1965, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York. Notable albums include "Juerga!" (1963), "Flamenco Guitar" (1965), and "La Guitare D'or De Manitas" (1970). He was the uncle of members of the Gipsy Kings. He passed away in 2014 at the age of 93.
