Mary Timony is an American independent singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her work in bands such as Helium, Autoclave, Wild Flag, and Ex Hex. In 2000, she released her debut solo album "Mountains" under Matador Records. The album was recorded in Boston and mixed in Chicago, with Timony playing all instruments except drums. Her music often features dark and heavy elements with drones and modal melodies reminiscent of European medieval music. Timony employs various alternative guitar tunings, notably DADGAE.
