Matthews Southern Comfort is a British country rock and folk rock band formed in 1970 by former Fairport Convention singer Iain Matthews. The original lineup included Matthews, Mark Griffiths, Carl Barnwell, Andy Leigh, Ray Duffy, and Gordon Huntley. The band is best known for their cover of Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock," which reached number one on the UK charts in October 1970. After Matthews' departure in 1970, the group continued as Southern Comfort, releasing three more albums. Matthews later reformed the band twice, in 2010 and 2017, releasing new albums such as "Like A Radio" (2018) and "The New Mine" (2020).
